Advancing Europe’s Biofertilizer Sector for Sustainable Agriculture

The I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS project will significantly enhance the European biofertilizer sector by fostering the development of a robust transnational value chain. By uniting leading actors from eight EU countries and thirteen regions, the project promotes innovation and the implementation of cutting-edge biofertilizer solutions, including biostimulants. This collaborative approach accelerates the creation of sustainable agriculture practices, contributing to a circular bioeconomy and advancing soil management techniques across Europe.

Supporting the growth and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is a cornerstone of the project. Through cascade funding, the initiative provides financial backing to 30 SMEs and startups, enabling them to overcome existing market and technical barriers. Additionally, beneficiaries receive comprehensive technical, business, and innovation advisory services, ensuring successful project implementation and fostering entrepreneurial growth within the biofertilizer industry.

Empowering SMEs for Innovation in Biofertilizers

Building Regional Strength Through Biofertilizer Innovation Networks

Interregional cooperation and knowledge exchange are the pulsing core of the project. The I3-4-BIOFERTILIZERS initiative facilitates capacity building and investment readiness among regional ecosystem stakeholders, particularly SMEs. By offering go-to-market support, knowledge transfer, and best practices sharing, the project strengthens regional innovation capabilities and promotes the adoption of sustainable biofertilizer technologies. This collaborative network not only enhances the collective expertise but also drives uniform standards and practices across diverse European regions.

To sustain and maximize its long-term impact, the project establishes the Excellence Competence Centre on Biofertilizers and Sustainable Agriculture. This permanent hub provides ongoing innovation and financial advisory services to SMEs and regions, ensuring continuous support and fostering enduring interregional partnerships. By bridging the gap between developed and less developed regions, the Centre cultivates regional competitiveness and paves the way for the emergence of new Regional Innovation Valleys focused on circular and sustainable agriculture, ultimately contributing to a resilient and sustainable European agricultural landscape
